I have tried a few rubs over the last few years. One of those I’ve wanted to try since it was released is the House Rub by Marcus Bawdon, CountryWoodSmoke. Being a part of the fantastic CountryWoodSmoke Facebook Group, I’ve seen many people describing how brilliant it is. So I bought a chicken, portioned it up and gave it a go. This is how it went.
Recently, I haven’t posted many reviews to this blog. For a number of reasons, mainly that I am busy doing the same stuff I do most days and because I usually have to wait until payday before I can afford to eat out. I have been trying to find more businesses to review from in and around my area. I hoped to go out last weekend and find something really good. Something that would excite my readers and although I believe I did find something really brilliant with Elm Tree Pies and The Cherry Tree, it certainly was not Retro Diner. This is my ‘review’ of Retro Diner in Abergavenny.
This will be the first negative review I have written. I almost don’t want to post it but for what purpose? Even the Twitter page says, “Trying everything once and telling you all about it. Good or bad!”. I would only be doing you a disservice by not telling you about my disappointing experience. Continue reading Retro Diner: Abergavenny
Recently I had a rather extraordinary trip to Abergavenny with my daughter. Unusually, it was a very bright and sunny day and I was definitely in the mood to find something great for you guys. Unfortunately, one of my discoveries was very disappointing. The other two turned out to be pretty great and in this post I am going to tell you about The Cherry Tree. Continue reading The Cherry Tree: Jams, Chutneys and Curds.
Today I am going to ‘review’ Lilo Newport, Grill House & Juice Bar. Lilo Newport is a restaurant/takeaway serving authentic middle eastern food. The reviews I have read give a positive impression of the restaurant and the food looked good so I gave it a go.
First of all lets discuss what I ordered and how it is described on the menu.
Today I am continuing my breakfast series and reviewing the Breakfast Pizza at Frankie and Bennys.
As discussed in a previous blog I wouldn’t normally blog about a big chain restaurant like this but if I enjoy the food, I will blog about it.
One of the main reasons I wanted to write about this pizza was, it is more unusual than the ‘Great Full English Breakfast’. Whilst the ‘Big Breakfast’ offered at Frankie and Bennys does not compete with my English Breakfast, the Breakfast Pizza is a great alternative. But, is it better than the ‘Great Full English Breakfast’?
I know that everyone is busy during the week and many of you might not get to check your social media accounts until the weekend. This is why I have created this ‘Sunday Round Up’ so that you will never have to miss a blog again!
This is not the type of food that I will normally ‘review’ on this blog. However, if I feel as though something I eat is worth the mention I will definitely tell you about it. What might surprise you is the fact Nicholls, Abergavenny is actually a shop selling good quality jewellery, clothing and homeware. The website describes the space at the back serving food as a ‘Coffee Shop’. It is not open evenings but with a decent sized menu serving very good quality food it is not like any other Coffee Shop I have visited.
This is the first ‘review’ of an independent restaurant posted on The Munch and Tattle and probably the only one that will be of a restaurant in Newport, South Wales for a long time. I will review both the ribs and the pulled pork burger from Sawyers Bar and Grill.
Although there are places to eat in Newport, there aren’t too many stand out places that everyone loves to go for good quality food and in particular, barbecue and grill.
Sawyers Bar and Grill only opened it’s doors on 22nd of August, 2014 and I didn’t wait long to have a go. Sawyers bar and Grill is really the only place in Newport serving this type of food. Continue reading Sawyers Bar and Grill – Magor, Newport: The Ribs and The Pulled Pork Burger
If I am honest, calling this a review would be unfair. I don’t know whether the book is well written and I don’t plan on going into detailed analysis of the entire book. All I can say is whether or not the food looks good. It’s more of a shout out! I like the book and if you like tasty food… You should definitely take a look.
Most of Jamie Oliver’s (or any celebrity chef) cook books are conscious about promoting healthy eating. While I think that people shouldn’t be encouraged to eat unhealthily, I do believe chefs should release more books like this. ‘Comfort Food’ gets me excited about cooking and eating which is important. The food looks incredible and I get excited about every recipe. Continue reading Book Review: Jamie Oliver’s Comfort Food.
A couple of days ago I decided that I want to make the best burger possible in my own home. Inspired by The Beefy Boys (@TheBeefyBoys) and my recent visit to Sawyers Bar and Grill @Sawyersmagor (review here) I gave it a go. I believe that I am competent enough in the kitchen to make a burger. With the knowledge gained scrolling through Twitter recently, I should know how a good burger should look and taste.
