This was only my second cook on the fantastic Ooni 2s. Not the latest model but certainly capable of producing some truly amazing pizza in no time at all. I won this pizza oven in a very generous competition run by Nathan at KungFuBBQ. You can actually get this model relatively cheap if you know where to look. Even the latest model is available for less than £200. I would 100% recommend having a look if you want some really amazing pizza. There’s not much better than fresh, home-made, wood-fired pizza. I’ve definitely got a lot to learn but this is how today’s cook went. Continue reading Pizza On The Ooni 2s
Just a short and sweet post this one. I am now the proud owner of an Ooni 2s. It’s fantastic and the day I found out I was going to own one was a really great day. Formerly known as Uuni before their re-branding. I was actually extremely lucky to win this fantastic piece of equipment thanks to a competition ran by another blogger, Nathan, KungFuBBQ. His blog is truly fantastic and growing in popularity every day. Beautiful photography, incredible food and loads of inspiration. If you aren’t already familiar with his blog – Go have a look, subscribe and look through as much as you can because I guarantee you will find loads of recipes, hints and tips and you will find incredibly useful and thoroughly inspiring. It was by Nathans recommendation that I purchased The Pizza Bible book that provided the recipe for my first cook using the Ooni.
I’ve only used it once so far. Normally when cooking I would have my camera by my side photographing every step of the way so that I can show you. Not this time. I wanted to get to know the Ooni before having to think about photographing what I’m doing at the same time.
The first cook went well but it was clear that I have much to learn. The temperature wasn’t high enough. The dough stuck to the grease proof paper that for some reason I had the dough balls proving on. Most importantly the pizza did taste fantastic. The best part…. I know they can be better!

I would like to let everybody know that this is their last opportunity to attend a great local event in Monmouth. Tickets are running low and by the sounds of it… This is a great day out for you and your family.
On the 4th of July, television celebrities, award-winning chefs and some of the best food producers from Wales and the South West will come together at Humble by Nature, the working farm owned by Kate Humble, for the very first outdoor family festival, the Big Day Out. This is a review I have been excited about posting. First of all because it’s a pizzeria in my home town but also because the pizzas are great!
I live in a town called Pontypool, in South Wales. As you would expect, there is no street food or barbecue and a limited number of restaurants. Top quality restaurants in particular are rare. We do have a great market, Pontypool Indoor Market, home to some great butchers etc but that is it. Recently I have wanted to blog about whats on offer locally and this is one of many posts I hope to publish spreading the word about local events or business.
One of my favourite places to order pizza is Porky’s Pizzeria in Pontypool. Now I know you are probably thinking that they are just another kebab shop or sub standard pizza place but I don’t believe that is true. 2015 will be their 28th year in business and their popularity in the area is a testament to the quality of their food. They are open most of the day for lunch, offering sandwiches, baguettes, paninis etc and then later in the evening… Pizza! Regular or Skinny, hand spun bases with a fairly large selection of toppings.
Here is the main menu. Continue reading Porky’s Pizzeria, Pontypool: ‘You Must Be Smoking’
A bit of fun today. Nothing too serious 🙂
Now and again I drift off into my own little world. My imagination runs wild and the world is for the taking. Suddenly I can imagine a life where I can make all my dreams come true! Start my own business, write a book, travel the world or cook something so incredible that people queue hours to eat at my restaurant. Perhaps it’s hope more than anything but I think we all have these moments and it’s great! At least I hope so or I am starting to sound very strange. Our imagination makes everything possible so why not right?
Well today I had one of these moments. It started with me just thinking about what I fancied to eat. Then I thought about what I might have if I could have anything I liked. Doesn’t matter where from or who cooked it…. I could ask for it and it would be here. I had trouble choosing and so I started to think about what it would be like if I could eat all my favourite food, everything I have ever tried and loved or am yet to try in one place. One unbelievable, mouth watering and perfect restaurant.
Sounds great right?! I bet your starting to think about what you would choose right now.
Today I am continuing my breakfast series and reviewing the Breakfast Pizza at Frankie and Bennys.
As discussed in a previous blog I wouldn’t normally blog about a big chain restaurant like this but if I enjoy the food, I will blog about it.
One of the main reasons I wanted to write about this pizza was, it is more unusual than the ‘Great Full English Breakfast’. Whilst the ‘Big Breakfast’ offered at Frankie and Bennys does not compete with my English Breakfast, the Breakfast Pizza is a great alternative. But, is it better than the ‘Great Full English Breakfast’?
Today I am ‘reviewing’ the Flat Iron Steak Pizza from Frankie and Bennys. A part of me nearly didn’t post this review because Frankie and Bennys is a national chain also responsible for Chiquitos and Garfunkel’s Restaurants to name a couple. I feel as though most of the people who write and read food blogs like mine only want to hear about the independent restaurants and food stalls/vans. The ones people haven’t always heard about.
For the most part, I am the same. There are countless reviews of Frankie and Bennys restaurants by bloggers and writers much more accomplished and respected than me. Not many people would read this and not already know about Frankie and Bennys pizza. I like to read and write about the less well known restaurants and street food but I also want to write about any and all food that I enjoy. So here it is.
