We can’t get enough of street food in Cardiff. Only yesterday I posted some news about a brand new event called Street Food Warehouse (which you can read about here) and today I’m bring some more exciting news.
In recent years Cardiff has seen a huge growth in the popularity of street food and for good reason! Cardiff is really starting to thrive in terms of street food and the growth is showing no signs of slowing down. It’s a new year and I have been anxiously awaiting news about what we can expect in 2015.
If you don’t already know…. DEPOT is back! Continue reading DEPOT Cardiff Returns!
Street food. We all love it and the thought of visiting London for the chance to try the extensive range of street food that it has to offer is an exciting one. Unfortunately, the practicalities of doing that can sometimes make it difficult. I live in Wales and although I would love to go, travelling to London would be expensive. For my regular street food fix, it is simply not an option.
For those of you in Wales and in similar circumstances, I have good news!

This is a review I have been excited about posting. First of all because it’s a pizzeria in my home town but also because the pizzas are great!
I live in a town called Pontypool, in South Wales. As you would expect, there is no street food or barbecue and a limited number of restaurants. Top quality restaurants in particular are rare. We do have a great market, Pontypool Indoor Market, home to some great butchers etc but that is it. Recently I have wanted to blog about whats on offer locally and this is one of many posts I hope to publish spreading the word about local events or business.
One of my favourite places to order pizza is Porky’s Pizzeria in Pontypool. Now I know you are probably thinking that they are just another kebab shop or sub standard pizza place but I don’t believe that is true. 2015 will be their 28th year in business and their popularity in the area is a testament to the quality of their food. They are open most of the day for lunch, offering sandwiches, baguettes, paninis etc and then later in the evening… Pizza! Regular or Skinny, hand spun bases with a fairly large selection of toppings.
Here is the main menu. Continue reading Porky’s Pizzeria, Pontypool: ‘You Must Be Smoking’
Last weekend I found myself wandering around Abergavenny with my daughter. Shopping, soaking up the sun (surprisingly) and looking for something I might be able to talk about on this blog. I ended up with a few things to talk about. One bad experience but also one or two brilliant discoveries. Elm Tree Foods pies being one of them! Continue reading Elm Tree Foods: Pies
This is not at all the kind of thing that I would normally blog about but… because it was pretty good and involves using just two ingredients, I was shown how to make this by a family member, I thought I would share it with you.
It is literally two ingredients. Eggs and Nutella. Here’s how to make it. Continue reading Cooking: Two Ingredient Nutella Cake
So I wanted to prepare a post ready for pancake day. I do love pancake day because it’s another excuse to eat more pancakes! Ordinarily my family stick to the usual thin pancakes, sultanas and lemon juice with a sprinkle of sugar. I do love these but I have decided to cook something different for you to try. Considering most of my cooking and reviews so far have been American style barbecue based, I though I would stick with that theme and cook American style pancakes, topped with banana in butterscotch sauce. It’s my first time making butterscotch sauce actually but I definitely liked it.
I have to say… They are pretty incredible pancakes. Even if you don’t like butterscotch sauce I would definitely suggest cooking the pancakes. They are just as good with blueberries, maple syrup, bacon, lemon juice and raisins or pretty much anything else you can imagine would go with pancakes. Light and fluffy… They are really good and I 100% recommend you give them a try if you don’t already eat them regularly.
Just in case you don’t know how to make this. Here’s how:

I don’t normally post things like this but since the street food scene is growing and I wish that it continues growing – I think it is important to do my part and help promote this. I wasn’t asked to post it…. I wanted to and I hope that you might like to help too.
Keystone is just one project that is a part of this growth and they need your help. In order for Keystone to build a high quality venue without compromising principles they need us, the public, to help fund their Kickstarter campaign and get themselves off the ground.

A bit of fun today. Nothing too serious 🙂
Now and again I drift off into my own little world. My imagination runs wild and the world is for the taking. Suddenly I can imagine a life where I can make all my dreams come true! Start my own business, write a book, travel the world or cook something so incredible that people queue hours to eat at my restaurant. Perhaps it’s hope more than anything but I think we all have these moments and it’s great! At least I hope so or I am starting to sound very strange. Our imagination makes everything possible so why not right?
Well today I had one of these moments. It started with me just thinking about what I fancied to eat. Then I thought about what I might have if I could have anything I liked. Doesn’t matter where from or who cooked it…. I could ask for it and it would be here. I had trouble choosing and so I started to think about what it would be like if I could eat all my favourite food, everything I have ever tried and loved or am yet to try in one place. One unbelievable, mouth watering and perfect restaurant.
Sounds great right?! I bet your starting to think about what you would choose right now.

Sunday I tested my smoker for the first time. This is how it looks at the moment.
Ok… It’s not the most beautiful thing in the world but I do believe with a lick of paint it will scrub up quite nice. But who really cares what it looks like?!
I thought that it might be finished but… unfortunately I discovered it was not. I have, however, learned some lessons and by next week it will be ready.
This was the first time I have had an entire day on the weekend to really knuckle down and get some work done on the smoker. Here’s what happened.

One of my favourites when it comes to cooking BBQ-ish food at home is pulled pork. Although I am certain that cooking something like this would be better on the smoker/barbecue, it isn’t always possible. I know that many of the people reading this will barbecue rain or shine and although I will if the mood takes me… Most people wouldn’t.
I would like to make it clear at this point that I am no expert in the kitchen or on the barbecue. I am only a keen cook with a good love for barbecue food and these recipes only detail how I cook this particular meal. If you have any tips or suggestions that might improve the recipe, I am more than happy to hear them. In any case, this is a great way to cook it at home. Primarily because it’s pretty simple to make and the end results are delicious.
