So I thought I would try to make my own mince for burgers. I’ve had the electronic mincer for quite a while and still haven’t used it. Every time I’ve been to a shop intending to by meat for the mincer I have backed out because it seemed to work out so much more expensive. This time I thought it must be worth the extra effort so lets have a go. For my first attempt I decided that I would try to use the most accessible meat from a local supermarket. I hoped this would bring down the cost but also demonstrate what is possible to those who don’t normally shop at a butchers.
This cook was a simple one. Not too adventurous but it’s definitely one of my go to smokes. Maple glazed pork ribs and whole chicken. I’ve always been sceptical about cooking steak ‘dirty’ despite many bbqers stating that this is the best way to cook a steak. For those of you not familiar with this method – Rest assured, cooking a steak ‘dirty’ doesn’t actually involve any dirt. It actually means that instead of cooking your steak on the bbq’s grill, you place the steak directly onto the coals. I haven’t posted anything to my blog for a very long time. My domain had expired and my drive to write anything had disappeared. I have loved barbecue food for a long time but my ignorance meant that I didn’t make the most of what I had. Although I have a large Weber Mastertouch at my disposal – I mistakenly believed that they could only be used for grilling. I think most of the UK public incorrectly hold a similar view. What I really wanted to do was smoke some meat but I couldn’t afford to buy a dedicated smoker. After watching videos of Frankin BBQ on Youtube I was sure that an offset smoker was the way to go. I even tried to build my own filing cabinet smoker but it just didn’t work (despite the popularity of the post) and I gave up. So I bought a “new” camera a week or two ago. The Olympus OM10 35mm camera. I don’t know how many of you still use 35mm film but I can tell you it isn’t too cheap. Although the camera itself cost me around £60 (can be much less but I liked this tan version) including delivery – the film and developing of that film is quite expensive. The 35mm film itself can cost £5 – £7 per roll. I managed to get a pack of 20 for £10 which is pretty excellent considering. The developing of this film will cost me £5 per 35mm film if I would like it scanned to a CD. In the future, I plan to purchase my own film scanner saving me money in the long term. Film developing would then only cost £2.50 per roll. Still much more expensive than digital photography.

Lately, I have struggled to write new content for the blog. I have been busy. Life gets in the way sometimes but I have also come to the realisation that I need to post more regular content in order for the blog to be in any way interesting. Unfortunately, posting regular reviews of restaurants etc seems unachievable. You should still expect to see reviews, personal posts and the occasional piece of news but the focus will change.
