FRANKLIN BARBECUE – A MEAT-SMOKING MANIFESTO

The book is here!  Pre-ordered months ago and eagerly anticipated so that I can cook excellent barbecue – Franklin Barbecue: A Meat Smoking Manifesto finally arrived a week or two ago.  Why am I only telling you about it now?  Well, I’ve been busy.  But this is not a review.  I haven’t cooked anything in the book yet and so it would be unfair to review it. Once I have, I may write a separate post giving my assessment but I’m guessing it will be great.

If you haven’t heard of Franklin BBQ… Shame on you! Franklin BBQ is arguably the most popular BBQ restaurant and although I am yet to try the food myself, I have heard great things.  I strongly suggest that you look them up and if you ever have the opportunity… Try their food.

With summer fast approaching and the sun beginning to show itself, I am looking forward to the opportunity to barbecue more often.  I know many of the hardcore barbecuers will cook outside rain or shine, but I struggle.  In the coming months, I hope to barbecue often and I will be happy to share my experiences with you.  In particular, the recipes in this book!

Have you already used this book?  Let me know what you think 🙂

If you would like to purchase the book, you can find it here and perhaps in other places too.

New Job, New Discoveries and a Healthier Lifestyle?

I haven’t really posted anything to the blog recently and that is because I have started a new job.  Previously, I had worked in an office environment for around 5 years.  The job allowed me to spend all of my time on the computer and a large proportion of that time could be spent on the blog.  There just wasn’t much work.  There’s nothing necessarily wrong with that but if you don’t go to the gym and keep active it can ruin your health.  I am a perfect example of that.  Combined with the fact I love my food, I can safely say that I don’t lead a healthy lifestyle at the moment.  I hoped that this was something that might start changing. Cooking: Awesome Steak!

This is not really an instructional post.  After all… It is just a steak.  I still wanted to tell you about it because I enjoyed it so much!

This was a piece of Welsh rump steak bought for just £2.97!  No idea why it was that cheap.  May have been reduced, may have been on offer but I grabbed it anyway.  I was too excited to notice, to be honest.  I’ve cooked good steaks before.  I know all the rules – oil and season the meat, allow the meat to reach room temperature, place on to a really hot pan and don’t move it around too much.  This time, I decided to try something new and use a herb brush to butter the steak. I wasn’t sure how much flavour could really be added to the meat by simply brushing it with butter using a herb brush, but it was brilliant!  I am guessing that this is not new for many of you, but there might be a few people that are yet to try this and I seriously suggest that you give it a go. Photography and Food

Photography is a big part of my life. I wouldn’t consider myself a phenomenal photographer but It is something that I thoroughly enjoy.  I grew up photographing anything and everything.  From inanimate objects around the house to salt plains in Tunisia and portraits, there wasn’t much I didn’t photograph.  That changed.

Personal Blogging

I have decided to add a ‘Personal Blog’ section to the website.  Nothing major but sometimes I would like to talk about something other than food.

Food remains the primary focus of The Munch and Tattle.  I don’t want the blog to lose it’s identity and change into something else but you should expect a few extra bits now and again. Perhaps adding a bit more personality to the blog and letting you know a bit more about me.  Don’t know what yet.  Might include photography.  Might include travels.  I will see how I feel 🙂
