Salt Block Cod Loin

This was a bit of a weird one.  More of an experiment than anything else.  Bought two of these salt blocks from ‘Home Bargains’ for around £4.99 each.  Seen others using them and thought I would give it a go.

First of all the instructions advise you to preheat the block.  It gives a specific temperature but I have no way of measuring this so I heated the block until it seemed very hot.  I didn’t season the cod because I wanted to find out how much the salt block seasoned the fish.  I did oil the fish slightly to try avoid any sticking and placed it directly onto the block.  It did sizzle slightly but ended up sticking quite a bit which was disappointing.  Only reason I can think of would be the block wasn’t quite hot enough.  Only other explanation would be that I haven’t oiled the fish enough.  Nevertheless the fish was good enough to eat.   I do feel as though the fish was seasoned by the block although I’m not sure how much benefit there is cooking with these over regular methods and seasoning well.  If nothing else it does look goof for your guests.

Do you have any experience with salt blocks?  Would love to hear what you think.  Any suggestions perhaps.
