The team behind Abergavenny Food Festival are working tirelessly to organise an event we can all really enjoy. I am very happy to be given the opportunity to share some of what they have arranged with you, albeit a little late. I believe this year’s event could be the most exciting yet. Enjoyed by many for its celebrity chef demos, incredible exhibitors and diversity – Wales’ biggest and best-loved food festival has given us a sneak peak into what we can expect over the weekend of 18th,19th and 20th of September 2015. I can’t wait!
The big announcement today is that Chef Tom Kerridge will headline the festival on Friday night (18th of September), discussing his new cookbook, Tom’s Table: My Favourite Everyday Recipes, with food journalist Xanthe Clay. Chef Tom Kerridge is one of TV’s most loved Michelin starred Chefs and I am definitely a big fan. The dishes he cooks range from great BBQ style pulled pork or beef short rib to extremely sophisticated pub grub that everyone can love.
“This will be my second visit to the food festival in Abergavenny and the first opportunity for people to get my book before its release on 24th of September, which is very exciting. I am looking forward to sharing some of my new recipes with the audience and hope it gets the same warm reception I have always received at the festival.”
Joining Tom at this year’s festival will be the Hemsley and Hemsley sisters. Not only are they the authors of a bestselling cookbook The Art of Eating Well and contributors to both Vogue.co.uk and The Guardian, Jasmine and Melissa cook and consult for celebrities and high profile events around the world. On Sunday the 20th of September the sisters will be taking centre stage for two events just for you! They will be talking us through recipes straight from their book and trying out some new recipes with organic vegbox company, Riverford.
Food writer, food stylist and chef, Olia Hercules will also be demonstrating some of the Eastern European recipes from her debut cookbook, Mamushka. Named Observer Rising Start of 2015, Olia’s food is certain to spark some interest and I definitely look forward to seeing what she cooks.
Heather Myers, Chief Executive of the festival said: “Every year we get some of the best names in food and this year will not disappoint. There is a lot more to announce, but we hope this teaser will wet people’s appetites for what is set to be another amazing weekend of food, drink and entertainment.”
Obviously the impressive guest list is not the only reason you should visit Abergavenny Food Festival. Wristbands will get you entry into over 200 food and drink exhibitors across five venues, live cookery demonstrations, children’s activities, entertainment, live music. New for 2015, the organisers have introduced
New for 2015, the organisers have introduced Meat Market. Some of the best meat producers from across the UK will be there with butchers, demonstrations, specialty knives and accompaniments. Meat lovers, do not miss out!
Old favourite the Night Market will also return to Abergavenny Food Festival this year. Taking over the Lower Brewery Yard and transforming it into a ‘magical’ place to eat, drink and hangout. A brilliant, though unconfirmed selection of specialty street food vendors will be open until late on Saturday the 19th of September. I know that you will be eager to know who these vendors will be, I have asked. Some of you might already know but as soon as I know.. I will let you know.
Artisan Kitchen School will be making experts in artisan food and drinks production available to you. Make a product and take it home with you to enjoy. Children can also get involved and let out their mini-master chef at the Food Academy with a weekend of hands-on workshops and activities.
Wash all that down with some of the best of Wales’ craft brews and stay for an evening of music, dancing and food at Abergavenny castle for Party at the Castle.
