This is not the type of food that I will normally ‘review’ on this blog. However, if I feel as though something I eat is worth the mention I will definitely tell you about it. What might surprise you is the fact Nicholls, Abergavenny is actually a shop selling good quality jewellery, clothing and homeware. The website describes the space at the back serving food as a ‘Coffee Shop’. It is not open evenings but with a decent sized menu serving very good quality food it is not like any other Coffee Shop I have visited.
This is the Butterflied Chicken Breast in Stilton Sauce and Seasonal vegetables I ate at Nicholls. www.nichollscrickhowell.com/abergavenny-i53
Everything seems fresh. The chicken is well seasoned and cooked so that it is browned but not tough. The vegetables are cooked perfectly, still have a little bite, not mush. The fried potatoes are crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The pickled red cabbage was nice, adding a slight acidity to balance everything a little. The Stilton sauce was definitely the best part. It was creamy, cheesy and just the right amount of tangy to make the meal great.
I would also like to mention that the staff are incredibly friendly. They were very good with my daughter, even providing a takeaway style cup with lid and straw for her juice, which she loved. She had a platter with bread, ham, salad, fruit, cheese and crisps which I think all small children enjoy.
If you are ever shopping in Abergavenny and wanting a nice breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea I would definitely recommend trying Nicholls. The menu online seems to be out of date so have a look when you get there and check the specials too.
If you do go, let me know what you think 🙂
